Former president Rodrigo Duterte's sudden switch to a pro-Charter change (Cha-cha) stance was welcomed Wednesday, Feb. 28 by administration congressmen.
Positively receiving Duterte’s change of heart on Cha-cha during a press conference were Davao Oriental 2nd district Rep. Cheeno Miguel Almario, AnaKalusugan Party-list Rep. Ray Reyes, and South Cotabato 2nd district Rep. Peter Miguel.
“For the former president to mention that he is for the economic Cha-cha, it is a breath of fresh air to us and we continue to welcome these kinds of support from all of our influential leaders across the country,” Almario said.
“The intention was never vested interest in the first place. It was to really further improve the economical standpoint of the country," added the neophyte solon, alluding to Duterte's initial fears on Cha-cha.
Reyes, a fellow neophyte of Almario's in the House of Representatives, said he was happy to hear the former chief executive's latest remarks on constitutional revision.
“We are very happy with the comment of our former president and we look forward to working with each and every stakeholder moving forward," Reyes said.
Miguel, on the other hand, was equally excited to have Duterte on their side, at least on the matter of economic Cha-cha.
“Napakalaking bagay po nitong pronouncement ni former President Digong dahil noong nakaraang linggo kontra pa po siya. It is a complete turnaround," he said.
(President Digong's pronouncement is a big deal because he was against it only last week.)
"And it is a big deal for us na magsama na ang dalawang influential persons ng Pilipinas ngayon, ang ating sitting President, PBBM (President Bongbong Marcos), and the former president saying Cha-cha is good, so long as we will amend the economic provisions,” Miguel said.
(And it is a big deal for us for two influential persons in the Philippines today to join forces, our sitting President, PBBM and the former president saying Cha-cha is good, so long as we will amend the economic provisions.)
