Bulacan cop dies in freak accident

A policeman died in a freak accident after falling from a police car and being run over by a government vehicle in San Miguel, Bulacan on Wednesday, February 28.

Members of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, headed by Col. Relly B. Arnedo, are mourning the death of Patrolman Edmond John Arenas, 26, of Brgy. Buliran, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija. He was a member of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC).

Arnedo said Arenas, who was stationed at the Patrol Base in Brgy. Buhol na Mangga, San Ildefonso, Bulacan, died in the line of duty in the accident that happened in Brgy. Balite, San Miguel, Bulacan.

Investigation showed that the police vehicle being driven by Patrolman Klein Orbita was traversing southbound towards Manila with Arenas seated at the back. 

Arenas reportedly gasped and fell from the open vehicle and was run over by a government vehicle registered under the Local Government Unit of Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya with plate number SJS946 and which was being driven by Joel Rivera, 53, of 16 Urban Street, Ibung Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya.

Arenas was rushed to San Miguel District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician. 

Arnedo said the dedication and sacrifice of Arenas will always be remembered and honored.

The incident is being investigated by the BPPO while appropriate criminal complaints against the driver of the government vehicle are now being prepared for filing in court.
