'Bad idea': Hontiveros thumbs down holding of Cha-cha plebiscite alongside 2025 elections
Senator Risa Hontiveros on Wednesday, February 28 said she is opposed to the proposal seeking to hold a Charter change plebiscite alongside the 2025 elections saying it is a “bad idea.”
“I think ang pagpilit nila ng plebisito sa kanilang pekeng People's Initiative o plebisito sa sinasabing amyenda sa economic provisions lamang ng Konstitusyon (their move to insist a plebiscite for their fake People’s Initiative or a plebiscite for the proposed amendment to the economic provisions only in the Constitution), I think is a bad idea any which way na gawin yan sa ngayon,” Hontiveros said.
Hontiveros said she is standing pat in her view opposing any economic or political amendments to the 1987 Constitution.
“Ako po'y tutol sa (I am against) Cha-cha whether economic or political provisions whether sa pamamagitan ng People's Initiative, lalo na itong pekeng PI nila (especially on the fake initiative) o sa pamamagitan ng isang mala-Con-ass na proseso (or through a constituent assembly),” she said.
“Dahil hindi pa nga sigurado kung Con-ass ba ang ginagawa ng Senado o ng House sa ngayon. Tutol talaga ako dyan (Because we’re not even sure if the Senate or House of Representatives will adopt the Con-ass mode. I am truly against it),” the senator reiterated.
The senator’s remark was in response to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s statement that he wants the Cha-cha plebiscite to be held alongside the 2025 elections in order to save government funds.
