In a world where sustainability is no longer just a trend but a necessity, Arcadia’s event on February 17, 2024 entitled "Build for Tomorrow: Shaping the Future of Constructionthrough Sustainability,” had Ms. Rosemarie Bosch-Ong, SEVP-COO of Wilcon Depot, highlighted the importance of sustainability in construction, from harnessing renewable energy to promoting water conservation and offering eco-friendly building materials.

Rapid urbanization and infrastructural development have long characterized the stand of the construction sector in the Philippines leading to environmental degradation and resource depletion. With the growing awareness of climate change and the need for sustainable development, there is a significant shift towards adopting sustainable practices in the construction industry. This deliberate focus motivates Wilcon Depot to take proactive steps toward addressing sustainability concerns outside the wheelhouse of the business.

On February 17, 2024, Wilcon Depot SEVP & COO, Ms. Rosemarie Bosch-Ong shares the company’s efforts to champion sustainability in shaping the future of the construction industry as a keynote speaker in an event hosted by Arcadia. The theme “BUILD FOR TOMORROW: Shaping the Future of Construction through Sustainability” gathers business leaders, entrepreneurs, sustainability practitioners, and the likes to discuss building a greener environment and managing the mounting construction waste. This event aims to connect local construction companies to experts in green materials, waste reduction strategies, and recycling to kickstart collaboration towards greener solutions.

Starting a year with the “Dapat Totoo” initiative,  Rosemarie Bosch-Ong highlights Wilcon’s commitment to INTEGRITY to the 5 Ps: Process, People, Profit, Product, and our Planet. The company believes that demonstrating integrity towards the planet helps minimize the environmental footprint and also encourages other businesses to safeguard natural resources for the benefit of future generations.

Despite the United Nations Environment Programme’s 2021 Global Status Report for Buildings and Construction indicating a decline in energy emissions during the pandemic surge, Bosch-Ong says it is crucial to implement sustainable measures promptly. This urgency stems from the rapid population growth and advancing Philippine economy.
