BACOLOD CITY – A 44-year-old Person with Disability (PWD) died in a fire that gutted his house in Sitio Bunga-Bunga, Barangay Nataban, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Monday afternoon, February 26.

Fire Officer 3 Joseph Earl Solivio, chief investigator of San Carlos City Fire Station, identified the fatality as Ricardo Tignera.
Solivio said the blaze was believed to have originated from the kitchen.
He said the victim’s 12-year-old niece saw the fire and heard her uncle shouting for help.
She sought help from their neighbors but the fire grew as the house was made of light materials.
Solivio said the victim was alone at home when the fire struck as his elderly parents were working.
The remains of the victim were found inside his room and the Tigneras' 3,000 ears of newly harvested corn were burned.
Solivio said they are looking into embers as a possible cause of the fire. He added that they only received the report about the fire in the early evening.
Firemen walked 1.5 kilometers and reached the fire scene late in the evening. The area was 29 kilometers away from the city proper and located in an upland part of San Carlos City.
Damage to property was estimated at P15,100.
