The ‘50s were a magical time in music history, marking the birth of rock and roll and witnessing an incredible fusion of genres.
This March, Newport World Resorts relives the greatest rock and roll hits, as well as classic R&B tunes, of the world-famous American vocal group, The Platters. The country’s premier entertainment destination presents the two-night tribute concert “The Golden Sounds of The Platters” on March 9 and 10 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT).
The Golden Sound of The Platters, the chief tribute act of The Platters, will bring to life some of the iconic R&B and doo-wop group’s enduring hits, including “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” “Only You,” and “The Great Pretender.” The group returns from their highly successful 2019 concert staged at Newport World Resorts that delighted the musical palate of Filipino fans.
Now composed of members Eddie Stovall Sr., Mose Edward Stovall Jr., Kim Leo Green, Frederick Berry, and Deneen Davis, the tribute act prides themselves on capturing The Platters' unique vocal style and delicately balanced harmonies.
As one of the most successful vocal groups of the 1950s, The Platters has created numerous chart-topper songs at least 40 times on the Billboard chart and 16 gold records.
This time, early rock and roll fans can jam once again to their all-time favoritetracks from The Platters in this upcoming tribute concert.
