MPD launch manhunt for suspect in Quiapo slay; family dispute eyed
Members of the Manila Police District (MPD) said on Wednesday, Feb. 28, that they are hunting down two still unidentified suspects who shot dead a man in Quiapo, Manila on Saturday, Feb. 24.
The MPD identified the victim as Naim Lala, 27, a resident of Quiapo, Manila. He was a native of Marawi City.
Prior to the shooting, the wife of the victim said that her husband was on his way home after watching a concert at Shariff Mansion in Quiapo at around 11 p.m.
Based on the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the victim was seen walking along Arlegui Street in Quiapo at around 11:28 p.m.
The footage caught one man who suddenly appeared from the victim's behind and shot him on the head.
The suspect immediately ran and boarded a motorcycle.
They fled from the crime scene bringing the gun that they used in the crime.
Police said that the victim died on the spot.
MPD Homicide Chief Dennis Turla said a family dispute could be the motive behind the killing.
“According doon sa kaniyang asawa, yung angkan nito may kaalitang pamilya rin sa probinsiya nila sa Marawi City. So ‘yun yung tinitignan nating anggulo (According to the victim's wife, his clan is embroiled in a feud with another clan in their province of Marawi City. So, that's the angle we're looking at),” he said.
