BACOLOD CITY – A policeman was killed and five others were injured after his motorcycle sideswiped a tricycle in Hacienda Bernabe, Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, Negros Occidental on Monday, February 26.

The fatality was identified as Police Corporal Edward Peña, 36, of Barangay Salvacion.
Police Capt. Rodney Sarona, deputy chief of the Murcia Municipal Police Station, said the victim overtook a tricycle he was tailing on his way home from duty.
However, the victim sideswiped the tricycle and fell off his motorcycle and the tricycle swerved and rammed a roadside concrete post.

Sarona said the victim might be speeding as he failed to control his motorcycle.
He added the victim was wearing a helmet but he probably did not lock it as he sustained head injuries.
Peña was taken to a hospital where he died.
Sarona said the injured, including the tricycle driver and a three-year-old toddler, have been discharged from the hospital.
The tricycle driver was placed under police custody pending further investigation.
