Robin Padilla apologizes to Senate officials over wife's IV drip issue
By Dhel Nazario
Sen. Robinhood Padilla on Monday, Feb. 26 expressed his apology to Senate officials related to the intravenous (IV) drip session involving his wife Mariel Padilla inside his Senate office last week.

Padilla sent letters to Dr. Renato DG Sison, director of the Senate's Medical and Dental Bureau; and (Ret) Lt. Gen. Roberto T. Ancan, the Senate sergeant-at-arms.
"Kailanman po ay hindi ko naisip na ipagwalang-bahala ang mga umiiral na alituntunin ukol sa seguridad ng Senado, lalo't higit ang hindi pagbibigay-galang sa ating institusyon (I would never think of violating the Senate's security protocols, much less disrespecting our institution)," Padilla said in his letter to Ancan.
"Nais ko pong bigyan ng diin na wala pong intensyon ang aking maybahay na ipagwalang-bahala ang mga umiiral na patakaran ng Medical Bureau (I wish to emphasize that my wife had no intention of disregarding the rules and regulations of the Senate Medical Bureau)," he said in his letter to Sison.

"Makakaasa po kayo na hindi na mauuulit ang ganitong uri ng pangyayari (Rest assured this will not happen again)," Padilla stressed in his letters to Ancan and Sison.
On Sunday, Mrs. Padilla also apologized to the public and to the Senate over the issue involving an IV drip in Sen. Padilla's office.
She also clarified that the drip was Vitamin C and glutathione.
Prior to the apology, Senate Ethics Committee Chairman Nancy Binay said that she was not comfortable with the senator's statement that his wife "loves to promote good looks and good health."
"I think medyo I’m not comfortable with, ‘yung phrase na mahilig lang mag-promote ng good looks and good health (I think I'm not comfortable with the phrase that she just likes to promote good looks and good health)," Binay said in a radio interview on Teleradyo on Saturday, Feb. 24.
"It’s not good health kasi wala siyang Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval and hindi naman porke’t –sa akin din ang pag-whitening, hindi rin ‘yan batayan ng good looks (It's not good health because there's no FDA approval and for me whitening is not a basis for good looks)," she added.
Binay earlier pointed out that the Department of Health (DOH) has already declared “gluta” drips as unsafe and has also been banned by the FDA.
Sen. Francis Tolentino said in an interview on Monday that Binay and Padilla should discuss the matter but the apology should be accepted and be reciprocated with an acceptance that the said act will no longer be committed in the future.
