ILOILO CITY – The Police Regional Office-6 is conducting an investigation on a police officer who allegedly pointed a gun to a group of young men here over the weekend.
“I’ve ordered an investigation,” said Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, PRO-6 director, on Police Staff Sgt. Archie Ian Garcia, assigned to the PRO-6 Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit in Camp Delgado, the police regional headquarters.
Garcia poked his service firearm during a verbal argument with three men drinking on the road in Barangay General Hughes near Camp Delgado at past 11 p.m. on February 24.
The off-duty cop stopped his motorcycle in front of the three men to ask about a child he almost accidentally hit while driving.
The three said that Garcia told them he was a cop and forcibly pushed them without any reason. Another man tried to intervene and Garcia also allegedly pointed his gun at him.
A police report from the Iloilo City Police Office-Station 1 said Garcia claimed he took his gun out as he was preparing to defend himself if any of the men attacked him.
It was the fourth man who was able to report the incident to the police who responded and arrested Garcia.
“We don't need this kind of people in the organization,” Wanky said in a press conference on Monday, February 26.
Wanky warned erring PRO-6 policemen. “I’ll be hard on you if you make mistakes,” Wanky said.
