West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. will invest P4 billion to rehabilitate and improve its current pumping stations and reservoirs.
As part of the company’s upgrade project which began last year, the allocation will be spent on 22 facilities that are operating non-stop to increase water supply and pressure throughout the western Metro Manila.
According to the concessionaire, the utilities will undergo retrofitting to enhance the resiliency in their structures, upgrade the pumps and motors for better water pressure, and replace electronic and electrical equipment for pump operations and reservoir capacity for better service especially during maintenance activities and interruptions.
The upgrade work is set to be completed by 2027 and aims to benefit four million consumers in Caloocan, Las Piñas, Manila, Muntinlupa, Quezon City, Parañaque, Pasay, and parts of Cavite province.
Randolph T. Estrellado, Maynilad chief operating officer said that these activities are necessary for their growing customer base.
“This maintenance project—along with our planned construction of new PSRs over the next five years—is part of our service enhancement program that will ensure sustained water access in light of higher water demand,” he said.
To date, the water company has around 39 pumping stations and reservoirs within its concession area, which has increased from 32 in 2006, prior to its re-privatization.
Since then, Maynilad has been the largest private water concessionaire in the country based on customer base.
It operates in parts of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, and parts of Cavite and Cavite Province.
