'May forever': 38 couples renew vows in Taguig

Rogelio and Celia Mendoza have been married for 54 years and to celebrate their lasting relationship, they renewed their vows in Taguig.

A total of 38 couples in Taguig joined the mass renewal of vows held recently at the Lakeshore Hall.

A renewal of vows ceremony allows couples to reaffirm their marriage vows and commitment.

Mayor Lani Cayetano led the ceremony that honored couples who have been married for last least 25 years.

A symbolic cake and wine ceremony symbolized the happiness and harmony in the couples' marriages.

Three couples were recognized for having the longest marriages. They are the Mendoza couple (54 years of marriage) from Barangay Ligid Tipas; Rosalino and Erlinda Bragais of Barangay East Rembo (49 years); and Jaime and Virginia Ranopa of Barangay East Rembo (46 years).

Erlinda Bragais said respect and understanding are they key ingredients to their lasting marriage.

"Noong mag-asawa na kami, respect and pagkakaintindihan talaga ang kailangan. May mga pagsubok katulad ng away dahil hindi naman yan maiiwasan pero ayaw namin masira ang aming pamilya kaya nagbigayan kami (When we got married, respect and understanding were really needed. They were challenges like fighting because this could not be avoided but we didn’t want to destroy our family that is why we compromise)," she added.

Cayetano told the couples that they serve as inspiration.

“Ito'y isang selebrasyon para magsilbing magandang paalala at halimbawa na ang pag-aasawa is a lifelong commitment (This is a celebration to serve as a beautiful reminder and example that marriage is a lifelong commitment),” she said.
