The Malabon City local government, Artdialogo, and Malaysia have collaborated for the “Seni Skwela 2024” at the Tinajeros National High School, on Monday, Feb. 26, in celebration of National Arts Month.
The collaboration is a creative Philippine-Malaysian cross-cultural empowerment program designed for the youth and art educators.
In her remark, Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval emphasized the significance of the Seni Skwela 2024 and the partnership with Malaysia.
"As we gather here today to celebrate the artistic collaboration encapsulated in SENI Skwela, it is essential to recognize that the creativity we witness is intricately woven into the diplomatic fabric between the Philippines and Malaysia," she said.
"Our nations have shared a historical journey marked by mutual respect, cooperation, and a collective commitment to regional stability," she added.
The establishment of formal diplomatic ties in 1959, shortly after the independence of the then Federation of Malaysia, marked the beginning of a relationship deeply rooted in shared interests and values.
Over the years, both countries have collaborated within the framework of regional organizations, particularly the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Together, they have played pivotal roles in promoting peace, security, and economic development in the Southeast Asian region.
"Today, as we witness the fusion of artistic expressions in SENI Skwela, we see the tangible manifestation of the deep cultural connections nurtured through diplomatic collaborations," Sandoval said.
"Art becomes the language that speaks beyond borders, embodying the spirit of friendship and cooperation that defines the enduring relations between the Philippines and Malaysia," She added.
Seni Skwela
The term "Seni Skwela" is derived from "Seni," which comes from Bahasa Melayu, symbolizing art.
On the other hand, "Skwela," a colloquial term for "eskwelahan" or school, represents a space where interests, skills, and knowledge are sharpened.
The Seni Skwela initiative signifies a vibrant exchange of dialogues, echoing the best practices from the rich cultural traditions of Malaysia and the Philippines.
"The theme of this project highlights the cultural richness of Malaysia, providing a global platform to showcase its beauty," Sandoval emphasized.
"The collaboration between Tinajeros National High School Art Club, Artdialogo Asia, and the Malaysian Embassy exemplifies the spirit of National Arts Month and the mission of Artdialogo Asia—to promote, preserve, and serve humanity through the arts, transcending cultural boundaries," she explained.
Malaysian Ambassador to the Philippines Dato Malik has joined the program to represent his country and support the initiative.
