The name of the 29-year-old victim from Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, was withheld upon the request of the family.
Police Capt. Dax Santillan, head of Police Station 6, said the victim was waiting for his friends for a team-building at around 4:30 a.m. when he was shot by a lone gunman.
Santillan said that they initially received a report of a shooting incident.
Police found the victim wounded but they could not confirm his injuries because the family refused to subject him to autopsy. The victim was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
The victim was renting a place here while working in a Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) firm, according to Santillan.
Santillan said they are initially looking into the incident as drug-related, since his sibling was previously arrested for a drug offense.
He said the victim might have been targeted by his sibling’s enemies or he might also be involved in the illegal activity. Santillan also said that they are investigating if he victim’s death could have something to do with illegal drugs.
He said the victim’s cellular phone was missing, but his other valuables were intact. Santillan said they will check closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area to establish a lead on the perpetrator.
