3 Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group fighters slain in clash


ILIGAN CITY – Three Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG) members were killed in an encounter with the military in Barangay Matampay, Munai, Lanao del Norte on Wednesday, February 21.

Recovered from the encounter site was an M16 rifle.

The Forward Support Medical Company of the 103rd Infantry Brigade evacuated and treated wounded soldiers.

Wounded soldiers from the Task Force West of the 103rd Infantry Brigade were taken to the Adventist Medical Hospital in Iligan City and the Camp Evangelista Station Hospital of the 4th Infantry Division.

The Alpha Company of the 44th Infantry Battalion and the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion have been deployed to reinforce soldiers deployed in the area.

Brig. Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr., 103rd Infantry (Haribon) Brigade commander, lauded troops for their effective action against the DI-MG.

Major Gen. Gabriel C. Viray III, commander of the 1st Infantry Division, cited the soldiers for their bravery and commitment to maintaining peace and security in the area.

The 1st Infantry Division, he said, along with the entire Armed Forces, remains dedicated to protecting the community and will persist in their efforts to counteract threats to regional stability.

Six DI-MG members have been killed in two encounters with the military in Munai.

Three days earlier on Sunday, February 18, three DI-MG fighters died in an gun battle in Barangay Ramain. Six soldiers died in the gun battle.
