The Philippine National Police (PNP) warned gun owners to make sure that their firearm is registered in order to avoid legal problems such as what happened to a 51-year old man who was arrested during an operation in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro.
Capt. Clyde Kalyawen, chief of Roxas Municipal Police Station, said the operation stemmed from a tip-off that the suspect owned a gun and during the verification, it turned out that he had no permit to own one.
A search warrant was then issued which resulted in the confiscation of a .45 pistol and several bullets.
Kalyawen said the suspect is now detained and facing a case of violation of Republic ACT 10591 (Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) which carries a penalty of at least 12 years imprisonment.
"I commend the collaborative efforts of our fellow PNP counterparts in successfully apprehending the individual involved in the illegal possession of firearms. We vow to continue our relentless efforts to curb illegal firearms possession and maintain peace and order in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro,” said Kalyawen.
Meanwhile, a 41-year old man listed as a high-value target in the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency was arrested in a buy-bust operation Barangay Uyao in Roxas town.
The suspect was collared after he sold a sachet of shabu to a police confidential agent.
