SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency destroyed 21,700 fully grown marijuana plants valued at more than P4 million in a two-day eradication operation in the hinterlands of Ilocos Sur and La Union from February 21 to 22.

PDEA-Region 1 Director Joel B. Plaza said 10,900 FGMPs worth P2,180,000 million were found in four plantations with a total land area of 2,600-square meters in Sitio Sawangan, Barangay Danak, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur on February 21.
In San Gabriel, La Union, the next day, 10,800 FGMPs totaling P2,160,000 were found in a plantation with a land area of 900-square meters in Barangays Lon-oy and Bayabas.
Plaza said that these marijuana plants were destroyed and burned on-site. He said that samples were brought to their office here for documentation and proper disposition.
No cultivator was arrested during the operations but persons of interest are being investigated.
