After conceding two goals both to Tottenham Hotspur striker Martha Thomas in the first half, the world No. 38 Filipinas failed to find their breakthrough and make any conversions in the second half.

Thomas opened the scoring 23 minutes into the match before finding the back of the net six minutes past the half hour mark to deliver a brace that eventually had the Filipinas’ trailing until the final whistle.
The Filipinas are also coming off a nasty 4-0 shutout against Finland in their friendly match two days earlier ahead of the tournament.
With eight newcomers in the roster, head coach Mark Torcaso is hoping for a promising turnaround in the Filipinas’ second stint in the pocket tournament following a busy schedule in the past year when they competed in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Sarina Bolden, who recently scored a hat trick for her club team Newcastle Jets in the Liberty A-League in Australia and currently holds the most goals scored in a Filipinas uniform, couldn’t get through the Scot’s defense this time as the Philippines is yet to produce its own goals since flying to Spain.
The Filipinas, though, are still up for a possible podium finish when they face Slovenia in the third place match on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
