Far Eastern University overcame University of the East rookie Casiey Dongallo’s 30-point explosion with a hard-fought 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-27, 15-11 victory in the first round of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday, Feb. 25, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

While the Lady Warriors heavily relied on Dongallo on the offensive end, the Lady Tamaraws leaned on their balanced attack with four players finishing in double figures.
FEU improved its tally to 2-1 in the standings to bounce back from its straight-set loss against defending champion De La Salle Lady Spikers earlier this week.
Gerzel Petallo and Chenie Tagaod joined hands with a combined 34 points, while rookie Faida Bakanke delivered the clincher to eventually finish with 13 markers. Mitzi Panangin had 11 points.
FEU not only squandered a 2-1 set lead, but a 22-19 advantage in the fourth set as UE came with a blitzing counter run to bring the match into a decider.
Regaining their composure when it mattered most, the fifth set then saw the Lady Tamaraws jump to an early 7-2 lead after three consecutive attacks from Tagaod.
Dongallo, who was then at the back row for half of the final set, sent most of her attempts wide as the deficit grew bigger for the Lady Warriors.
Before UE could completely recover after pulling itself within just one late in the game, 11-12, FEU went on a 3-0 finishing kick to seal the victory.
Dongallo, who debuted as the highest scoring rookie in only her first game, paced the Lady Warriors with her first 30-piece in the collegiate all off attacks made.
Kayce Balingit then added 16 points in the losing cause as UE absorbed back-to-back losses after a phenomenal four-set opening victory over Ateneo last week for a 1-2 slate.
