Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koshikawa Kazuhiko is looking forward to better and more cooperation between the two countries considering that bilateral relations of both sides have "evolved beyond traditional areas and made great progress."
During a National Day Reception celebrating the birthday of His Majesty The Emperor on Friday night, Koshikawa said he was confident that there will be a steady and substantial increase of foreign investment in the Philippines.
At the same time, he added, he is also anticipating investments to Japan from the Philippine business community, which will be supported by the Japanese embassy.
Koshikawa also looked back at the milestones made by the governments of both nations -- the highlight of which was when Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida flew to the Philippines and delivered a speech at a joint session of Congress.
"Prime Minister Kishida's visit to the Philippines last November was another highlight of our bilateral relations. He became the first Japanese Prime Minister to deliver a policy speech," Koshikawa said.
Koshikawa also noted President Marcos' visits to Japan, where he garnered support both from the public and private sectors for his economic development plans for the country.
"Moving forward, Japan is fully committed to contributing to the construction of important infrastructure projects such as the Metro Manila Subway, the North-South Commuter Railway, and the Davao Bypass, as well as the provision of additional brand-new patrol vessels for the Philippine Coast Guard," he said.
Koshikawa said Japan was counting on the Philippines as the world remains in turmoil and uncertainty.
He said both countries share heart-to-heart ties and fundamental values and principles as they also join hands with like-minded countries to contribute to peace and prosperity in our region and in the world.
"Under the strong leadership of both countries and your support, I hope cooperation between Japan and the Philippines will grow to even greater heights," Koshikawa added.
