Ishie Lalongisip and Mayang Nuique combined for 24 points for the Lady Falcons, who evened their record at 1-1 after an opening day loss to the defending champion De La Salle Lady Spikers last week.
AA Adolfo also contributed 11 points for Adamson, which leaned on its balanced offense to edge UP.
The Lady Falcons, who made it to the Final Four last season, led for most of the match but encountered a feisty UP side in the third set before giving new head coach JP Yude his first collegiate win.
“Sabi ko sa kanila we must always give our best every time sa pag-training para madali natin sa paglalaro. [Doon sa laro] ‘yun nga ‘yung nangyari. Pinu-push ko talaga sila,” Yude said.
Locked at 12-all in the third set, the Lady Falcons unleashed a 6-2 run to briefly pull away from the Fighting Maroons.
However, Niña Ytang responded with three consecutive points off back-to-back kill blocks to give the State U its first lead of the match at 21-20.
Both squads then engaged in a nip-and-tuck affair as UP was looking to force an extended match. But Ytang was called for a net touch on her way down from a quick attack attempt that ended the game in favor of Adamson.
Season 85 Second Best Middle Blocker Ytang led all scorers after dropping with 18 points built on 12 attacks and six blocks as the Fighting Maroons extended their losing streak to 13 games owing 11 of which from last season.
Under new mentor Oliver Almadro, the rebuilding UP side is hoping for a significant turnaround as the season rolls along.
