55 couples marry in PRO-8 mass wedding

TACLOBAN CITY – At least 55 couples exchanged "I do" in a mass wedding by the Police Regional Office-8 dubbed “Kasalang Pulis sa Rehiyon Otso” at the Santo Niño Shrine here on Friday, February 23.

FIFTY-five couples were married in a mass wedding held by the Police Regional Office-8. (PRO-8 FB)

The couples were comprised of 55 police non-commissioned officers, one non-uniformed personnel, one fire officer, and 43 civilians.

Police Brig. General Reynaldo Pawid, PRO-8 director, thanked the people behind the success of the mass wedding.

Pawid considers the initiative as a best practice of PRO-8 and hopes that it will continue every year.

"As your marriage has been blessed by the Lord, I wish you all the best as one family, and remember that the secret to a lasting marriage is 'forgive and forget,'" he told the couples.

The mass wedding is an annual event of PRO-8 organized by the Regional Community Affairs and Development Division and the Regional Chaplain Service starting in 2022.

It aims to reach out to both uniformed and non-uniformed PNP personnel who are cohabiting with their partners without the blessing of the sacrament of matrimony.

One of the couples has been living together for 17 years with three children and considers the mass wedding a blessing as they have been wanting to get married in church for a long time.
