Farmer dies of cardiac arrest from extreme heat in Leyte
TACLOBAN CITY – A farmer died of cardiac arrest due to intense heat in Barangay Cambadbad, Matag-ob, Leyte, recently.
The victim was identified as Rogelio Sumpino.
Sumpino was carrying firewood when he suddenly collapsed.
Rescuers arrived and brought him to the Rural Health Unit in Matag-ob.
The RHU said that Sumpino suffered from cardiac arrest due to extreme heat.
Eastern Visayas logged a heat index of 40 degrees Celsius, particularly in Catarman, Northern Samar, on February 19 and 21.
Oxford Dictionary defines heat index as the level of discomfort that a person experiences as a result of the combined effects of the temperature and humidity of the air.
