106th National Day and Independence of the Republic of Estonia

The Republic of Estonia celebrates today its 106th National Day and Independence. 


Estonia is the world’s first digital society.


The Republic of Estonia is a country in the Baltic region with a population of approximately more than 1.3 million. 


The Republic of Estonia seeks to participate in the Republic of the Philippines' quest to become the new E-Philippines.


Dubbed as the world’s most advanced digital society, Estonia prides itself of providing its citizens hassle-free digital services to take care of everyday necessities of life, including basic government services, education, legislation and health care. In information technology, Estonians played a big part in developing the now mainstream social media application Skype, which was developed in August 2003, by the pioneering work of Estonians Ahti Heinla, Priit Kasesalu and Jaan Tallinn. 


Estonia is the cyber security capital of Europe.

 

Estonia and the Philippines

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Estonia and the Republic of the Philippines was formally established on Dec. 19, 1991.


In September 2023, the Republic of Estonia invited a team of delegates from the Philippines, headed by the Judiciary and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), to attend the Tallin Digital Summit in Estonia which focused on democracy and technology where the delegates presented new innovative solutions to the world for a more resilient, responsive and open future. 


The occasion was also an opportunity to continue the discussion on bilateral cooperation in relation to digital connectivity, e-governance and other areas of mutual interest.
In the Philippine effort to promote digitalization, a meeting between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia, H.E. Ms. Kaja Kallas and H.E. Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., President of the Philippines was held during the EU-ASEAN Summit on Dec. 14, 2022 in Brussles, Belgium to discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and global affairs. 


The Republic of Estonia wants to assist in the efforts to achieve E-Philippines.


Today, the Republic of Estonia is moving forward in close partnership with the Philippines in its efforts in digital transformation, together with Estonian’s business delegations coming to the Philippines and meeting with different government agencies.
