Marcos to Hawaii-based Pinoys: 'We're forever grateful, we'll never forget your kindness'
President Marcos has once again expressed his gratitude to the people of Hawaii for making his family's exile there as "pleasant and best as we could make it."

"[D]espite the difficult circumstances that surrounded our stay in Hawaii, Hawaiians made it as pleasant and as best as we could make it. And for that we will never forget and we’ll be forever grateful," Marcos said.
The President made the statement on Thursday, Feb. 22, as he spoke before the members of the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Honolulu and Honolulu City Council Trade Mission during their courtesy call at the Malacañan Palace, the same place they left in February 1986 during the People Power revolution that ousted his father from the presidency.
He told them that Hawaii and its people, including the Filipinos living there, have a special place in his heart. Thus they gained a number one supporter in the Philippines, referring to himself.
"Again, as I said, since you say that we, you have a special place in your heart, in like fashion, I have a special place in my heart for Hawaii, especially the people of Hawaii for the kindnesses that we were shown," Marcos said in his speech.
"I mean, it is on a more personal intimate level, the kindness that we were shown has again in difficult circumstances are something that we will be forever grateful for and that we will never forget and therefore you have your number one supporter here in the Philippines," he added.
Marcos said the same thing during his visit to Hawaii in November last year. He then said that the people of Hawaii "are the people that kept us alive for six years."
During the courtesy call, the Chief Executive also stressed that there is "great potential" in enhancing Philippine-Hawaii cooperation, especially in trade.
He said "there is a great deal of potential there, as there are so many similarities in terms of what are needed and what needs to be done in terms of the state of Hawaii and the Philippines and in specific areas of the Philippines."
