Fiscal discipline, pillar of LGU and nat'l development — VP Duterte

Vice President Sara Duterte called for enhanced fiscal discipline and effective revenue collection, saying these are drivers of economic and social growth both in the context of local government and national development goals.

In her speech during the 88th National Convention and Seminar Workshop of Philippine Association of Local Treasurers and Assessors (PHALTRA), Inc. held at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City on Wednesday, Feb. 21, the official lauded the association for its role as “stewards of fiscal management in your municipalities and provinces.”
 

“Today, as you gather once again to foster collaboration and cooperation among your peers, I hope you take this opportunity to further enhance fiscal discipline. It is through our collective resolve and dedication that we can drive towards a stronger economy and a more just society for all,” she said.
 

“Fiscal responsibility is not merely a duty; it is a testament to our sincere commitment to serving the people. Let us continue to uphold the principles of accountability and transparency, for they are fundamental to the fiscal health of every local government unit, and of course to the overall development of our nation moving forward,” Duterte added.
 

The Vice President noted that this year’s theme of "Empowering Interactive Local Treasurers and Assessors: Strengthening Collaborative Fiscal Management" spoke clearly of the group’s focus and priorities to advance transparency and efficiency in local public finance systems.
 

She reminded the group to keep the “best interests” of Filipinos when doing their jobs and to ensure “effective revenue collection and allocation” since these “are pivotal to our nation's progress.”
 

“Remember, the future of local development lies in your hands, and it is through our continued collaboration with your fellow employees that we can ensure no one is left behind,” Duterte said.
 

“I join you in this noble pursuit and hope that you will remain our steadfast partner in empowering our LGUs towards resilient progressive and inclusive development,” she added.
 

Duterte also thanked the group for its invitation since she was able to go home and for their support to her work as Vice President and Department of Education (DepEd) secretary and to the administration of President Marcos. 
 

Likewise, she extended her gratitude for their votes during the 2022 polls and for giving the Duterte family the opportunity to serve the nation.
