In a statement, shrine rector and parish priest Fr. Elmer Ignacio said the Pontifical coronation is particularly meaningful as it coincides with the 38th anniversary of the peaceful EDSA People Power Revolution in 1986.

“This remarkable moment shattered the illusions of power and ideology, dispelling the notion that violence and conflict are the only means to effect change,”said Fr. Ignacio.

The canonical coronation of the image of Our Lady of Fatima will be held on Feb. 25, Sunday at 9 a.m. Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles John Brown will lead the ceremony with Diocese of Malolos Bishop Dennis Villarojo.

The Vatican’s Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments approved the request of Bishop Villarojo for the canonical coronation of the Marian image on Nov. 21 last year based on testimonies from devotees whose prayers were believed to be granted through the intercession of the Blessed Mother. The widespread devotion to Our Lady of Fatima in the country and abroad was also considered.

Several bishops and church leaders including Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula are expected to attend the ceremony.

The revered image will be brought to the EDSA Shrine (Archdiocesan Shrine of Mary Queen of Peace) on Feb. 21.

Triduum masses will be held at the national shrine on Feb. 22 to 24 at 6 p.m.

Those who will not be able to attend may tune in to Radio Veritas 846 on Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon for the live broadcast.
