Even a self-proclaimed "Appointed son of God" can't be above the law.

Deputy Majority Leader Tingog Party-list Rep. Jude Acidre had this to say about the embattled Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, who earlier showed defiance despite being issued a subpoena by the House of Representatives.

"We will implement the law. If he does not appear then we will be constrained to execute the subpoena and make sure that he is here to answer the questions and issues raised against him," Acidre said in a press conference Thursday, Feb. 22.

"Now I don't think being an 'appointed son of God' puts you above the law and I'm sure no one is above the law," added the House official, alluding to one of Quiboloy's most cherished titles.

On Monday, the House leadership issued a subpoena ordering Quiboloy--founder of television network SMNI and leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) church--to attend a scheduled hearing of the Committee on Legislative Franchises on March 12.

The next day, Quiboloy released a 30-minute audio recording slamming the allegations against him. He criticized President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

He claimed that the Philippine and United States (US) governments were "conniving" to eliminate him.

"Papatulan pa ba natin yun (Do we have to respond to that)?" a somewhat annoyed Acidre said, referring to the controversial pastor's rants.

"Believe me, he is a pastor. He commands a good number of people around the world. He knows what he is doing. He knows that he is clearly defying the law. He knows he is injuring the political system that we have in place. He is disrespecting the authorities and I think he will be made accountable on that at the right time," Acidre said.
