SPD belies viral audio recording, text message of inmates who escaped from jail
The Southern Police District (SPD) branded as fake news the viral audio recording and text message about three inmates facing rape, homicide and murder charges who allegedly escaped from jail.
The text message warned residents of EMBO (enlisted men’s barrio) areas in Taguig and Guadalupe in Makati about the escape.

"Hello, @everyone Most especially sa mga girls living around Guadalupe to Embos, may mga nakawalang 3 inmates, yung mga case is rape, homicide, and murder. May isang case kanina sa guadalupe na patay and unidentified pa yung reason, and maraming soco earlier investigating the incident. magiingat po tayo ngayon ah, paguwian nyo na umuwi agad kayo may nagsend lang po sakin.. baka totoo, keep safe everyone (Hello @everyone most especially to girls living around Guadalupe to EMBOs, there are three inmates who escaped, those with rape, homicide and murder cases. There is one case earlier in Guadalupe of a killing and the reason is unidentified, and there are many SOCO earlier investigating the incident. Beware, go home immediately, someone only sent this..This may be true, keep safe everyone),” the text message that circulated read.
The SPD said there is no truth about the escape of inmates.
“Upon thorough investigation and validation of the information, the SPD can confirm that there is no credible evidence or official record supporting the reported escape. The SMS message circulated, warning residents in the area of Guadalupe and EMBO, appears to be based on unverified information,” the SPD said in a statement issued on Feb. 21.
To verify the audio and text message, the SPD said its intelligence operatives checked “with the SOCO Team Makati, Guadalupe Nuevo Sub Station, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Makati City, and La Paz Custodial Facility.”
“All reports indicate that there have been no incident of a prison break, and all detainees are accounted for,” it said.
The SPD urged “the public to remain vigilant and rely on verified information from official sources. We understand the concerns raised by the community, and we are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our residents. Rest assured, our officers are actively monitoring the situation, and any updates or developments will be communicated promptly.”
It added, “We appreciate the cooperation of the community in sharing information responsibly and encourage everyone to refrain from spreading unverified information that may cause unnecessary panic. SPD remains dedicated to maintaining public trust and providing accurate and timely information to the residents we serve.”
Last Feb. 14, the Tanay Municipal Police Station in Rizal issued a statement to deny that inmates under its custody escaped.
“Wala pong katutuhanan ang kumakalat na balita hinggil sa nakatakas di umano na preso/ person under police custody (pupc) ng Tanay Municipal Police Station (There is no truth to the news about the alleged escape of inmate/person under police custody [PUPC] of the Tanay Municipal Police Station),” the police station said in a statement.
It warned that those who spread fake news can be held liable under Republic Act 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).
The SPD earlier warned the public of a resurgence of an old social media post about an alleged “chop-chop” syndicate involving police officers.
