House Speaker Martin Romualdez has branded as unfounded and diversionary Pastor Apollo Quiboloy's allegation that the governments of the Philippines and United States (US) are conniving to eliminate him.

"I have taken note of the recent statements made by Pastor Quiboloy," Romualdez said in a statement Wednesday, Feb. 21.

"While I understand the gravity of the accusations he faces on the international stage, specifically from the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), it is important to clarify that the Philippine government and its officials, including myself and President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., operate within the bounds of our constitution and laws," he noted,

"The claims of connivance with foreign entities for illicit activities are unfounded and divert attention from the serious legal matters at hand. Our focus remains on serving the Filipino people and fostering relationships that benefit our nation, devoid of any engagement in criminal activities," said Romualdez.

Both the House of Representatives, which Romualdez heads, and the Senate have issued subpoenas against the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) leader.

"We encourage Pastor Quiboloy to address his legal challenges through the proper legal channels and respect the legal processes in place," said the Leyte 1st district congressman.

Romualdez added that they were "committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and security of all individuals, without exception".

"We remain steadfast in our duties and responsibilities to the Filipino people and will not be swayed by baseless accusations. We advise the public to remain discerning of information and trust in the processes that uphold justice and democracy in our nation," he further said.

Quiboloy bared in a recorded speech Tuesday, Feb. 20 that he had gone in hiding for fear of his life.

He is widely known as the founder of television network SMNI, and owner of the title "Appointed Son of God".
