Warm winds prevailing throughout the Philippines; 'amihan' may return next week — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, Feb. 20 said the easterlies continue to prevail over the country, but the northeast monsoon may return over the weekend or early next week.

In PAGASA's 4 a.m. live broadcast, weather specialist Obet Badrina said the easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean will still be the dominant weather system in the country.
"Patuloy pa rin iyong pag-iral ng easterlies o iyong hanging nagmumula sa dagat Pasipiko na siyang magdadala ng generally fair weather sa malaking bahagi ng bansa (The prevalence of the easterlies or the warm winds from Pacific Ocean continues, which may bring generally fair weather to huge parts of the country)," Badrina said.
"Sa ngayon, hindi umiiral iyong northeast monsoon o hanging amihan bagaman inaasahan natin based sa mga pinakahuling datos na bandang weekend or early next week ay muling babalik iyong bugso ng hanging amihan (For now, the northeast monsoon or amihan does not prevail, although we expect based on the latest data that on weekend or early next week, the surge of amihan may come back)," he added.
Meanwhile, in Caraga and Southern Leyte, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will be expected due to the easterlies, said PAGASA.
It warned the public of flash floods or landslides that may occur in times of moderate to heavy rains.
Moreover, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies or localized thunderstorms.
The public is also warned to be wary of flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.
