Like acid rain, UPHSD skipper Amiel Acido stung the Junior Blazers by dropping a masterful 33-point effort in a 110-91 rout Sunday that kept the Junior Altas unflappable at the helm.
That sterling job hiked the 19-year-old 12th grader’s per-game average to 18.67, the league’s second highest next to the 23.33-point norm of EAC’s EJ Castillo while catapulting him straight to the MVP race.
“Ang focus ko lang is to help my team win,” said Acido, last season's Mythical Team member and Defensive Player of the Year.
But UPHSD coach Johp Cleopas stressed the need for his boys to stay hungry.
“I really appreciate the boys because they worked hard and they responded every time,” said Cleopas. “But I don't want them to be complacent. We want them to stay hungry and we don’t want them to celebrate too much.”
Also on schedule are games pitting Arellano U (0-3) versus College of St. Benilde (0-3) at 10 a.m., EAC (1-2) with San Sebastian (2-1) at 2:30 p.m. and defending champion Letran (2-1) against Lyceum of the Philippines U (0-3) at 4:30 p.m.
