Puwersa ng mga Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Party-list Rep. Margarita "Migs" Nograles says that the proposed P100 minimum wage hike from the Senate simply isn't enough.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, Feb. 20, Nograles said she welcomes proposals to hike workers' wages given the high cost of living today.
However, the lawmaker acknowledges that P100 increase is far from adequate for the purchase of essential commodities.
“Hindi ito sapat (It is not enough). And, in any wage increase, alam po natin na syempre (we know that of course) it will be additional cost sa mga (to the) businesses,” she said.
Nograles, citing data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), said that about 98 percent of businesses in the country are in the form of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
In light of all this, the lawyer-solon stressed the need for the Senate and the House to end their bickering so that they can finally jumpstart Charter change (Cha-cha) proceedings.
She said the infusion of foreign capital to these MSMEs would make them more resilient.
Nograles expects the creation of more employment alongside sustainable businesses once this planned constitutional reform results to the influx of foreign investments.
“Para mas maging maganda ang ekonomiya ng Pilipinas at ang kabuhayan ng ating mamamayan sa as a whole,” the solon stressed.
(So that the economy of the Philippines and the livelihood of our people, as a whole, will be better.)
On Monday, the House leadership announced the filing of Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No. 7, which aims to amend certain economic provisions in the Constitution. This bill is a “carbon copy” of RBH No. 6 that the Senate is currently deliberating
