BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-5.3 earthquake rocked Surigao del Sur on Friday morning, February 2.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake was recorded at 5:35 a.m. and its epicenter was 92 kilometers (kms) northeast of Lingig, Surigao del Sur.
The earthquake had a shallow depth of only one km, Phivolcs said.
Phivolcs said the tremor was caused by the Philippine Trench.
No damage or injuries are expected from the earthquake.
The Surigao del Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported no damage or injury from the earthquake.
