The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has turned over a two-storey evacuation facility to the local government in Baler, Aurora which will serve as an emergency shelter for the municipality's typhoon-prone people.
In a statement Thursday, Feb. 1, DPWH Aurora District Engineer Roderick Andal said the evacuation facility in Barangay Suklayin cost P9.64 million to construct.
He said it has a total floor area of 543.2 square meters and comes complete with basic amenities such as a pantry, storage room, laundry area, 60 bedrooms, six shower areas, generator housing, and separate comfort rooms for men, women, and persons with disabilities (PWD).
Andal noted that they expedited the development of evacuation centers in the typhoon-prone province of Aurora to meet the demands for shelter, particularly during times of crisis and emergencies related to disasters like Typhoon Betty which struck in May 2023.
