Tiktok pa more! Cops are free to use Tiktok for as long as they will not degrade PNP uniform
There is no prohibition for all policemen to download and use the popular video-hosting app Tiktok, the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) clarified on Monday, Feb. 19.
PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr. issued the statement in reaction to the prohibition of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for all its personnel to download and use Tiktok using military-issued cellular phones and other communication gadgets.
“We have no policy on that. With regard to the use of Tiktok privately, our personnel can use it for as long as it is not degrading our uniform,” said Acorda.
Some countries have implemented a ban on Chinese company-owned Tiktok over security concerns.
The United States, Canada and even some European countries also stepped up the efforts to restrict the use of the popular app amid concerns that private and security-related data could be compromised.
Acorda, on the other hand, said they are currently evaluating the security concerns raised by the AFP on the use of Tiktok.
“With regard to the security issue that the AFP is raising, we are evaluating it also,” said Acorda.
The use of social media platforms are being encouraged in the PNP and other agencies in order to reach out to as many Filipinos. On the part of the PNP, it is being used in police-community relations.
