SAN MATEO, Rizal – Shagne Yaoyao leads a handful of Filipino riders that are expected to pour it all and earn precious UCI points to qualify for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.

Yaoyao, who is the top female mountain bike athlete in the country, believes local cyclists have a high chance of qualifying to the biggest sports meet if they continue to join foreign competitions and make impressive finishes.
“Pinagtatrabahuhan po talaga namin kasi 'yung Philippines top three po sa Asia, so kailangan po talagang i-maintain po ang points, Malaki po ang chance [natin],” said Yaoyao after finishing second place in the women’s open division of the 2024 7-Eleven Trail Cross-Country Marathon at the Timberland Heights on Sunday, Feb. 18.
Yaoyao settled for second place behind women’s open champion Nicole Quinones, who is also an Olympic hopeful and daughter of former national team member Eboy.
The world No. 136 Yaoyao is hoping to perform well in the UCI-sanctioned National Championships and the other in Malaysia this coming May. The winner in the Putrajaya event will get an automatic Olympic spot.
“Yung sa Malaysia po talaga ang pinaka importante sa lahat, wala naman pong imposible,” she concluded.
