Iba ka, 'Te! LTO suspends license of female SUV driver in viral Subic road rage video
You’ve seen and probably reacted to some of the local viral road rage videos—from bald drivers loading their guns and cursing at fellow motorists, to other motorists displaying the alpha male in them in confronting fellow road users over petty traffic misunderstanding.
But all of these angry male motorists practically turned wimpy in the case of a female sports utility vehicle (SUV) driver tagged in the viral Subic Bay Freeport Zone road rage incident whose display of sudden burst of anger surprised even the officials of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the female driver of the black Toyota Fortuner from Bataan was already slapped with 90-day preventive suspension of her driver’s license as a result of the Subic incident where she was accused of deliberately and repeatedly hitting a subcompact car on Saturday morning, Feb. 17.
Citing police reports that were obtained by the LTO in relation to the investigation of the incident, Mendoza said the Hyundai Eon reportedly driven by a senior citizen was travelling along Binictican Road within the vicinity of Subic Bay Freeport Zone when the black Toyota Fortuner overtook the car.
But the female driver suddenly stopped the vehicle after overtaking and started hitting the Hyundai Eon using reverse gear while the passengers were still onboard.
She then maneuvered near the damaged Eon before speeding off.
Mendoza said both the registered owner of the black Toyota Fortuner and its driver were already issued with a Show Cause Order directing them to submit a notarized written explanation as to why they should not be held liable for violation of the Section 27 of Republic Act 4136 (Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle).
They were also required to appear personally at the Conference Room of LTO Region 3 for a hearing on March 1.
“Non-filing or late submission of the answer is deemed an admission of the allegations,” the SCO read.
“Failure to appear at the above-stated time, day, and place shall be construed as a waiver to be heard and to contravene the above- cited accusation, leaving this Office to resolve the case administratively and accordingly based on the available records,” it added.
Mendoza said the initial action and the ongoing investigation by the LTO are separate from the investigation being conducted by the local police for a case of frustrated homicide.
He said the investigation is also aimed at hearing the side of the female driver in connection with the incident.
“Pending investigation, the driver’s license of the SUV driver is preventively suspended for 90 days effective upon the receipt of this Show Cause Order while the Toyota Fortuner shall be put on the alarm list,” said Mendoza, citing the SCO.
