14 nabbed for illegal gambling Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur

CAMP COL. RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – Police arrested 14 individuals for illegal gambling during a three-day Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operation in the Caraga region from February 15 to 17.

Police Regional Office 13-Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer said that P12,439 in bet money and illegal gambling paraphernalia were confiscated from the suspects.

Ometer said the suspects from Surigao del Norte and Sur face cases for illegal gambling.

“All the arrested suspects will face charges for violation of PD (Presidential Decree) No. 1602 which prescribes stiffer penalties on illegal gambling,” she said.

Seven violators were caught playing tong-its and betting on “Swertres” and the other seven served as ushers.

PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft commended operating units for their achievement. “Gaining a sum of money through illegal means will be met with dire consequences regardless of how big or small the bet money involved,” he said.
