Xiandi Chua finished 18th overall among 21 competitors in the women's 400-meter medley after timing 4 minutes and 51.01sec -- 11 seconds behind top qualifier Tessa Cieplucha of Canada, who clocked 4:40.80.
Only the Top 8 swimmers advance to the finals with Italy’s Sara Franceschi gaining the last berth with a time of 4:43.61.
Chua’s performance was also five seconds slower than her national record of 4:46.81 she set at the Australian Championships last year.
Teia Salvino, Thanya Dela Cruz, Jasmine Alkhaldi and Kayla Sanchez also for 17th among 19 squads in the women’s 4x100m medley relay after posting 4:11.95 -- one second slower than their own PH mark of 4:10.61 they set at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China last year.
Only the Top 8 teams advance to the final with Canada leading the qualifiers with 3:58.63.
Overall, only Sanchez managed to advance to the next round among her fellow Filipino swimmers when she made it to the semifinals in the women’s 100m freestyle, but Team PH managed to reset two new records in the relay.
