Former president, Pampanga 2nd district Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo gave high praise to President Marcos for helping establish the Pampanga State Agricultural University-Floridablanca Campus (PSAU-Floridablanca) in Floridablanca town, Pampanga.
Floridablanca is one of the six towns of Pampanga’s 2nd legislative district.
In a statement Sunday, Feb. 18, Arroyo said Marcos’ speedy approval of the PSAU-Floridablanca law underscores his commitment to providing quality higher education to Filipino students as well as improving the lives of Filipino farmers.
She also said that her constituents have requested her to relay their thanks to President Marcos for the law that institutionalized PSAU-Floridablanca.
PSAU-Floridablanca will no doubt play a significant role in improving the lives of many families in her district, said Arroyo. “The establishment of PSAU-Floridablanca brings great benefits to the students and farmers of all six towns of my district."
"Most of my constituents earn a living from agriculture and in-land aquaculture, so I foresee a boom in their incomes when they gain access to the new technologies and research findings, through their children who will study in PSAU- Floridablanca or through the school’s extension services,” explained Arroyo, also a former House Speaker.
PSAU-Floridablanca was embodied in Arroyo't pet bill, House Bill (HB) No.2625. It was signed into law by Marcos as Republic Act (RA) No. 11977.
The PSAU-Floridablanca Campus will offer short-term, technical-vocational, undergraduate, and graduate courses within its areas of competency and specialization.
It is likewise mandated by the law to “undertake research and extension services, and production activities in support of the socio-economic development and to provide progressive leadership in these areas”.
Arroyo served as Philippine president from 2001 to 2010.
