Most Filipino adults expressed discontent with how the current administration manages inflation and reduces the existing poverty in the country.

The OCTA Research on Saturday, Feb. 17, said the majority of adult Filipinos were "dissatisfied" with how the national government takes steps to help alleviate the lives of those in the lower sector of the economy.

"A significant majority of adult Filipinos are dissatisfied with the national government’s performance in managing inflation (only 14% satisfaction) and reducing poverty in the country (only 6% satisfaction)," OCTA said.

It also said "more" adult Filipinos are "dissatisfied" with the national government’s efforts in controlling the prices of basic goods or managing inflation at 75 percent; reducing poverty at 46 percent; ensuring food security or access to affordable food at 32 percent; creating more jobs at 31 percent; and fighting graft and corruption in government at 26 percent.

Moreover, there were also "least satisfied" (less than 50 percent) adult Filipinos in terms of the government's action in helping the poor at 48 percent; reducing the amount of taxes (at 46 percent; fighting graft and corruption in government at 41 percent; reducing hunger at 39 percent; ensuring food security or access to affordable food at 34 percent; creating more jobs at 33 percent; reducing poverty at 14 percent; and controlling the prices of basic goods or managing inflation at six percent.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of these adult Filipinos (81 percent and up) were "satisfied" with the national government’s conduct in different projects including building public infrastructure at 81 percent; proper and effective response to natural disasters at 77 percent; protecting the welfare of OFWs at 77 percent; providing quality and affordable healthcare at 75 percent; providing quality primary and secondary education at 75 percent; providing quality tertiary and technical or vocational education at 75 percent; and improving foreign relations at 72 percent.

"Majority of Adult Filipinos are satisfied with the national government’s performance in several programs, including building public infrastructure (81%), disaster response (77%), protecting OFWs (77%), providing healthcare (75%), and quality education (75%)," OCTA said.

OCTA said it surveyed 1,200 probability respondents who are 18 years old and above from Dec. 10 to 14 through face-to-face interviews.

"This survey has a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level," it said.

"Subnational estimates for the geographic areas covered in the survey have the following margins of error at a 95% confidence level: ±6% for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao," it added.
