The reigning champions cruised past the Lady Falcons for a winning start to their title defense despite the departure of its key players from last season.
Reigning MVP Angelo Canino picked up where she left off and finished with 14 points off 11 attacks and three blocks to lead the team’s balanced scoring. Shevana Laput had 11 points to give long-time La Salle mentor Ramil De Jesus his 300th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament win as the school’s head coach.
The Lady Spikers pulled away for good midway through the third set off a 6-2 run led by Canino’s five straight points, 18-12.
From then on, it was pretty much a done deal as La Salle held off Adamson the rest of the way.
Meanwhile, no Lady Falcon could find their scoring touch as they were all held to a single-digit production with Rochelle Lalongisip and Lucille Almonte scoring six points each on the losing end.
