Teng, who finally got a taste of championship after SMB took down Magnolia in six games in the 2023-24 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, was elated to somehow experience the same bliss and glory his father had when he was still part of the team.

The older Teng played most of his career with the SMB franchise and eventually won a total of nine PBA championships.

“First time ko mag-champion after six years so I'm truly blessed to be part of San Miguel and to win one sa pinaglaruan ng dad ko na maraming multiple championships na napanalunan. Sobrang blessed ako,” said Teng after SMB’s title-clinching 104-102 Game 6 win.

While Jeron’s one title was still far from his dad’s achievements at SMB, it was enough for the younger Teng to understand how addicting the feeling of winning a championship in the big league was.

“First of many. Itong championship feeling para siyang very addicting. Once you get one you will be just thinking about getting more, so yung all filipino yun yung next goal namin,” he added.

Of course, Teng was extra happy to have his father watching when he first hoisted his very first PBA crown.

“Definitely sobrang proud talaga sya sa akin and ever since napunta ako sa san miguel grabe talaga yung joy na nabibigay ko sa dad ko kaya sobrang thankful ako. He just always tells me to  give my best for San Miguel,” he added.
