Francis Casey Alcantara and Japanese partner Kaichi Uchida fell short in the Bengaluru Tennis Open after losing their semifinal match to hometown rivals on Friday, Feb. 16, in India.

The Filipino-Japanese pair recovered from an opening-set defeat, but lost their steam in the pivotal third set to succumb to Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan, 6-2, 2-6, 10-7, in this Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Challenger event.
A victory for Alcantara and Uchida could have arranged them a championship date with French alternates Maxime Janvier and Constantin Bittoun, who pulled off a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 upset victory over second seeds Piotr Matuszewski and Matthew Christopher Romios.
Still, it was an impressive finish for Alcantara and Uchida, who lost the opening round in the Chennai Challenger also in India last week.
Prior to losing to Myneni and Ramanatahan, Alcantara and Uchida first survived South Korean Hong Seong-chan and Wong Chak Lam Coleman of Hong Kong, 6-1, 1-6, 10-5, and Australian duo Adam Walton and Tristan Schoolkate, 1-6, 6-2, 10-7.
Alcantara hopes to improve his current ATP doubles ranking at No. 171. He ranked a career-high No. 169 early this month.
