Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin “Benhur’’ Abalos Jr. urged the youth sector to take the lead in initiating measures and programs against the country’s malnutrition woes at the grassroot level.
In a statement, Abalos stated that the younger generation is capable of raising public consciousness in stressing the significance of ‘adequate nutrition.’
“Make every effort to ensure that no individual falls behind because they lack access to nutritious food. Fighting social ills begins with education. Utilize your (youth) influence to inform your peers and community about the consequences of malnutrition,” he said.
“Remember, when you step into leadership roles, you become catalysts for positive transformation. Your passion, energy, and determination can have a ripple effect, motivating others to join the battle for a healthier, more just society,” he added.
During the recent National Youth Convention, Abalos lamented that “the youth sector plays a pivotal role in shaping a brighter future for our nation, thus their active participation in nation-building and the fight against illegal drugs is crucial for the realization of a Bagong Pilipinas,’’
“Youth leaders contribute significantly to the development and guardianship of a drug-free Bagong Pilipinas through their active participation in the process of nation-building, especially in the fight against the prevalence of illegal drugs,” Abalos said.
He urged various youth groups to establish connections with other youth organizations and leaders in the barangay, saying that ‘by exchanging ideas, insights and initiatives, one can generate a cohesive and constructive force that leads to positive change.
“By uniting, we capitalize on the potential of diversity, thereby enhancing our approaches and undertakings,” he noted.
The DILG chief also underscored the significance of collaborating with regional line agencies to synchronize the initiatives of youth leaders with more comprehensive development objectives.
“Seek guidance, support, and resources to optimize the effectiveness of your programs. By working together, we foster more resilient communities. Collectively, we can confront obstacles, execute solutions, and make valuable contributions to the general well-being of our community,” Abalos emphasized.
