Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. honored two centenarians and 39 nonagenarians at the Cadiz City Arena.

Centenarians Estelita Alimpolos of Sitio Cogon, Barangay Sicaba, and Cepriana Quinio of Purok Tinapok, Barangay Tinampa-an received P100,000 each.

Escalante said that the centenarian gift is their highest form of respect to elders who are 100-years-old.

This is pursuant to Republic Act (RA) 10868 or the Centenarian Act of 2016 which mandates local government units to give P100,000 as gift to persons who have reached 100-years-old.

Nonagenarians Epifania Balbinita of Hacienda Felomina, Barangay Burgos; Caridad Hechanova of Purok Pag-asa, Talabaan, Barangay Zone 1, and Reynaldo Santiago of Crossing Martesan, Barangay Burgos, all aged 95,  received P50,000 each.

The other nonagenarians aged 90 to 93 got P25,000 each.

Escalante said that this cash gift forms part of their local initiative through a city ordinance since they were not included in RA 10868.

The mayor said that as soon as their pre-pandemic budget is restored next year, they will be able to give cash gift to octagenarians aged 85- to 89-years-old.
