Filipino-Canadian swimmer Kayla Sanchez failed to reach the final round in the women's 100-meter freestyle event of the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday, Feb. 15.
The 22-year-old Sanchez clocked 55.07 seconds for 15th spot, which was also short of the Olympic qualifying time of 53.61.
Marrit Steenbergen of the Netherlands topped the event in 52.1sec, followed by Hong Kong’s Siobhan Bernadetted Haughey (52.92sec), Great Britain’s Anna Hopkin (53.12sec).
Meanwhile, Xiandi Chua (200m Backstroke), Jarod Hatch (100m Butterfly), and Jasmine Alkhadi (50m Butterfly) are still vying in their respective events as of presstime.
The Nationals will have until June this year to earn enough points and qualify to the Paris Olympics.
