Following the Ash Wednesday tragedy at the St. Peter the Apostle Parish, San Jose Del Monte Mayor Arthur B. Robes created a Task Force that will check the structural integrity of all facilities in the city, both private and government-owned buildings, including schools and 47 churches.
Robes, together with the city's building officials led by Architect Pavel Halog, revisited and inspected the St. Peter Apostles Parish Church on Thursday. Feb. 15.
The city building engineers were instructed to conduct inspections and assessments of all buildings in the city to avoid a similar similar incident wherein 55 people were injured and an 80-year-old woman member of the church choir died.
During the inspection, Architect Halog discovered that all the wooden parts of the mezzanine floor had been eaten by termites while the center part of the church remains safe or structurally sound.
He said city building engineers should submit as soon as possible a comprehensive report on their assessment, and once damage is observed, remedial measures must immediately be done to ensure the safety of the public.
