Amid a gloomy weather, the Chief Executive, along with Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado M. Estrella III, distributed 4,659 hectares of land to 2,769 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) in this province and other areas in the region who were victims of severe flooding last month and the first week of February.
Marcos turned over P203.3-million worth of farming support services to boost the Caraga region’s agricultural sector and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to agrarian reform.
Farm-to-market road project certificates with a total cost of P194,411,786 were given to representatives of 34,998 beneficiaries from the municipalities of Cagwait and Barobo in Surigao del Sur.
The government handed over certificates of 70 farm machineries and equipment to representatives of more than 1,681 recipients and Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations.
The President also gave checks to local government officials for flood victims.
Marcos bared a new law under his administration that condones agrarian reform debts to alleviate the burden of having to pay unpaid amortizations, interests, and surcharges incurred by the ARBs.
“We are looking for sure to make our farmers feel in good living,” said the President.
Estrella said these land and equipment would boost agricultural activities in the region and uplift farmers’ economic standing. “Giving these thousands of landless farmers a land to call their own would spark confidence in them to work harder and to make it more productive, resulting in the region-wide boost of agricultural productivity that is much needed.”
